Joy-Pain at the Foundry: Hello-Goodbye.

Like Matthew always says: “Life is Passion. Passion is Joy and Pain. Can’t have one without the other.” Well…looks like that counterpoint he speaks about proves true even when it comes to the Foundry itself…

Let’s start with the Joy:  Actor’s Foundry is absolutely thrilled and honoured to welcome actor and well-respected teacher Kyra Zagorsky to the fold. Kyra, Co-Founder of ACT Vancouver, has agreed to roll her efforts into ours, coming on as the new Professional’s Foundry teacher AND as our long searched for Voice/Speech teacher.

In addition to her  extensive performing experience in film, television, local stage and regional theatres across the US, Kyra holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Acting from the University of California, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Southern Oregon University. Kyra studied voice and speech under Katherine Fitzmaurice, Dudley Knight and Phil Thompson among others. Kyra taught professional acting, voice & speech, as well as movement for actors, at UC Irvine and has continued to deepen her work as a teacher and coach as the founder and lead instructor of her own acting academy, ACT Vancouver.

Over the next few weeks, Kyra will be rolling into the Foundry, getting up to speed by sitting in on lots of classes, and the upcoming Weekend Intensive with Matthew.

Now, with the joy of bringing an amazing new teacher to our community…comes the pain…

Sadly, we are saying farewell (for now) to Bradley Stryker. As most of you know, Bradley is a not only a highly passionate actor and teacher, but also a filmmaker making his mark on the industry, having created several Leo-nominated works. He has always preached that actors need to find a way to make things happen for themselves.  This is one of the beautiful synergies he brought to Actor’s Foundry – a living proof of  “the actors that work the most work the most”.  In furthering his mission, Bradley is moving to New York to study filmmaking with some of the best.

Bradley professed that this was a long and hard thought-out decision for him. Severing from the Vancouver Foundry community was the hardest part of the decision, he says. In the end though, this is the pain that defines the joy of his moving forward with his passion.   Bradley will be back  to guest teach weekends from time to time, and as we continue to build bridges to the east, we expect he’ll be instrumental.

Kyra will be taking over Bradley’s Professional’s Foundry classes (Tuesday Afternoons and Wednesday Evenings) as well as week 3 of the Four by Four (the class that has a different teacher each week).  Look for some passionate times as the reigns are handed over in the next few weeks.
